Speaker Bio
Dr. Xu holds a B.A. in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) from Harbin Teachers University, PR China, an M.A. in Bilingual Education, and a Ph.D. in Second Language Acquisition (SLA) from University at Alberta, Canada. Dr. Xu joined the staff at Troy University in 2008 after 10 years with Edmonton Public Schools, Alberta, Canada, and over three decades of experience as a second language teacher, supervisor, consultant, curriculum developer and conceptual designer. She has striven to create opportunities for learners of all ages to have experiences with new languages in and out of the classroom, including intercultural and inter-lingual exchanges for education students and teachers. She has been active in numerous local organizations of second language teachers and offered second language education and teacher education seminars and courses in China, Canada, Mexico, New Zealand, Britain and the USA, and mentored and guided many graduate students from around the world. Dr. Xu has been actively involved in coordination and organizing various programs in the fields of training and teaching English and Chinese as a second language for students and teachers. She has been directing and coordinating in the writing of the International Curriculum for Chinese Language Education, which has been translated into 47 languages as of 2014.
